Tebhaga movement of the 1940s- The Tebhaga Movement was one such major agrarian struggle being fought over the question of land rights and sharecropper's rights in Bengal

Background: The movement arose amidst agrarian discontent and demands for land reforms in Bengal, where peasants or sharecroppers-bargadars - were left under the mercy of oppressive zamindari systems.

WHY TEBHAGA MOVEMENT IS IMPORTANT?


1. Empowerment of Sharecroppers : Bargadars, also known as landless farmers in Bengal got a lion's share from the produce under rights advocated by state.
